I’m back in Vermont from my winter retreat in the Berkshires with a full car to unpack, and full heart to celebrate! What an inspiring couple of days surrounded by determined and talented ladies. When I set out to plan this retreat, my goal was to bring creative souls together and focus on the foundations of our businesses, the core to our values, our own health, and how we can evolve the passion that lives behind the camera. I couldn’t have predicted the great memories we would make and the friendships we would leave with!
DAY ONE was our business intensive. We put the equipment away and took a few steps back to really look at the levels of our businesses. As excited entrepreneurs, we sometimes make the mistake of diving right in without defining our purpose and outlining our game plan. With some self-reflection and in-depth business evaluation, we fine-tuned our foundations and outlined a plan of action to bring our businesses to the next level. Somehow this process also included heartfelt storytelling and a few tearful moments (so yeah, mostly me on the tears part). We concluded our day together with a candlelit dinner complete with some great food, good wine and lots of laughs!
We kicked off DAY TWO with some meditation and yoga to remind ourselves that in order to grow our businesses, we must first take care of ourselves. After yoga we grabbed our cameras and dove right into exploring various areas of photography – our overall approach, styling strategies, how to leverage natural light, understanding camera settings, posing techniques, how to evoke client emotion and authenticity, and the list goes on and on! Our models Melissa, Douglas and Jackie were so full of personality and such a pleasure to work with!
It takes some serious stepping outside of your comfort zone to attend an overnight adventure such as this. I’m so grateful that these attendees chose to be brave and vulnerable to this process. Here’s to community over competition at its best!
My May 2017 retreat details and registration will be available very soon! Spoiler alert: We’re looking at May 10th and 11th outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Want to be the first to know when registration opens? Click here to subscribe to my newsletter!

“Leave self-doubt behind” continues to be the anchoring message within my workshops. Sometimes in this creative industry full of so much talent and ambition, it can be very difficult to avoid those feelings of “I’m not good enough…”, “I can’t…”, “I’m not as good as…”, etc. If we can leave that dangerous self-doubt behind, the possibilities are endless…(Behind the scenes photo by Abby at AB Photography…) (Behind the scenes photo by Meredith at Meredith Jane Photography…) (Morning yoga/meditation with the peaceful Emily Alfano of Red Barn Wellness…)
